(both apparently require mucking with the driver/editing "your must add the Belin USB ID data to rtmp_def.h to the #define RT73_USB_Deivces section".does one do that in a text editor? And then what? Does it need to be compiled or is this merely a config file?ĭon't go with version 1xxx or because it is status GREY and requires mucking with the driver. Use version 3xxx or 4xxx as second to last choice. READ THAT NO mucking around with a text editor required! Correct?

If you can find an F5D7050 Version 2xxx.get it as a first choice because you can just download the dirver from or and use these drivers with NO mods. This is what I think I learned before I head to my local BB tonight: So for the hackintosh newbies let me see if I can summarize and get concurrence from someone more in the know. If you are on a limited budget like me, consider buying this one. If you are looking for a $60, $70, or $100 card buy another one and quit b ing. Just pay attention to which chipset it has, as can be seen by looking on the bottom of the box as demonstrated in the above post.

I have successfully connected to my desktop pc and transferred files, connected to the net, watched online vids, and lota of other things. It has a good signal and comes with a USB extention cord. It looks to me like the first four chipsets have easy work arounds. It may connect using other protocols, I have not tested it. So to recap (for all you normal people out there) this card will connect using WEP, and a hidden SSID.

You can keep out most nosey neighbors who are simply looking for a free ride- in other words, it keeps the entire neighborhood from stealing bandwidth from your network. It is secure enough for most home networks, especially if you use WEP with a hidden SSID. | | | | "USB Vendor Name" = "Manufacturer_Realtek" | | | | "USB Product Name" = "RTL8187B_WLAN_Adapter" Items in bold are the ones I changed, because when I ran ioreg -l it gave me the proper vendor ID's. Once the driver is installed you will need to copy the kext it installs to your desktop and edit the ist file. So what I'm trying to do is get Realtek's drivers to recognize the new identity. Out of the box, it won't work because Rev 5 Belkin cards have a custom Vendor/Dev ID.
This link is for Realtek's driver for Rev 5 Belkin cards that use the Realtek chip. I just finished looking at a possible solution but I have not tested it 100% but I figure I might post the information here in case anyone wants to try. Then you will need to unplug/replug to get it to work.
I suspect that it needs to be plugged in BEFORE you turn the system on and boot MacOS. Once I left it unplugged, and only plugged it in after the system loaded, and had problems. You have to unplug/replug the device after the os has loaded for it to register as a device. This only happened once, but otherwise this hardware works just fine. I have had a problem or two getting the connection to register in my system. It is intresting to note that this piece of hardware evidently does not work universally across all versions and distros of of HacOSx86. Everyone go out and buy one of these! Great antenna, better connection that my onboard. This fantastic chip supports WEP as well the network types where you have to enter the network name too. Voila! Instant wireless connectivity (after configuring my security settings). I installed the driver, restarted the computer, inserted the device into my USB port. I went to the website listed above for my chipset. I have included a few box scans so everyone knows what the package looks like, as well as the bottom flap where the version number is so you know Where to look.
Although, as we all know, things can be hacked. First of all there is a notice inside that says the device is not Vista compatible. I went out to Fry's and bought one of these beauties for $29.95. Alright peeps, back on track: the Belkin USB F5D7050.
